My problem with interracial dating pt 1
PART 2: Mixed Matches » If you've ever watched the Jerry Springer show — please tell me that you haven't for the sake of your brain cells — then you might have seen KKK members with hoods crisply pointing skyward, talking about the good ol' days when there "wasn't none of this race mixin' goin' on." These well-spoken and intellectually challenging individuals will often pull out their Bibles and skillfully misquote sections of the Old Testament that forbid interracial marrying. The problems that people have with interracial relationships are in no way biblically justifiable.
Dating interracially with misguided motives will inevitably lead to problems. You’ve dated a long line of losers—deadbeats, cheaters, manipulators. They all belonged to your racial group, so you figure you’ll have better luck dating someone of a different race.I will admit, I’m super annoyed that it took the election of Donald Trump as our next president to make white people admit to racism. And while I’m sad and worried about the coming days, I’m not surprised by this outcome. The rhetoric around Trump’s rise and his supporters is being downplayed.I think I’m going to pass on that hypocritical bullshit.
Despite that, there are a lot of us people of color (POCs) who have white people in our lives. In my case, my spouse is white and we had to do a shit ton of work to get us to a decent place.
In today's society, that translates to marrying someone who is not a Christian, whatever color they happen to be.
There are quite a few examples of intermarrying in the Bible.
It’s time to have an honest, open discussion about interracial relationships.
No, I don’t mean gabbing about the latest drama between Olivia and Fitz.
I also advocate because Black women are at a unique dating disadvantage in America.
